Professor
Daryl Higgins
Professor Higgins holds a PhD from Deakin (1999) and is a registered psychologist. He is Professor and Director of the ACU Institute of Child Protection Studies, a nationally recognised centre of research excellence in the field of child, youth and family welfare at the Australian Catholic University.
From 2011-17 he was Deputy Director of the Australian Institute of Family Studies, responsible for the Institute’s research projects and communication of research outputs. From 2004-17 he led a range of research projects and knowledge translation services to inform policy and practice across a spectrum of child wellbeing themes. His research skills span disciplinary boundaries of psychology, criminology, sociology, social work, and public health.
He has pioneered Australian research on multi-type maltreatment and its psychological sequelae. He has experience in conducting a CATI study in 2014 with our partner on this proposal, the Social Research Centre. In addition, he is experienced in research governance and ethics, and was a member of the National Statement Section 3 Review Working Committee for the NHMRC (2016-17).
He is a national leader in innovative knowledge translation to facilitate access to evidence by policymakers and practitioners. He has co-authored > 200 publications including 75 refereed journal articles, with 87 publications since 2013. Many articles are in leading journals read by policymakers and practitioners and in leading international journals.
