Presentations
The ACMS generated the first reliable evidence about the population-wide prevalence and characteristics of all forms of child maltreatment (physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, and exposure to domestic violence), and their associated mental disorders and health risk behaviours through life. The ACMS generated multiple significant scientific findings which have major implications for Australian Government and State and Territory Government policy development across diverse portfolios.
The ACMS team has engaged in an extensive process of engagement and knowledge translation with government policy-makers across Australia, and with non-government organisations, peak bodies, and key sector stakeholders. Since late 2022, the team have collectively delivered over 150 customised presentations on the ACMS and its main findings and policy implications to these various groups. This has facilitated the adoption of specific recommendations by key government portfolios in multiple States, and this process of engagement and impact is ongoing.
In addition, the ACMS team delivered major public presentations in four capital cities to launch the results in 2023. We have also presented key results on various topics at scientific conferences in Australia and overseas.
A recent publication provides further detail about this approach to knowledge translation and diffusion of innovation (see Higgins & Mathews, 2024). A full list of these presentations is available on request (please contact b.mathews@qut.edu.au). Several presentations are also detailed in the Resources page.
