Professor Michael Dunne

Professor Dunne is a psychologist and social epidemiologist at the QUT School of Public Health and Social Work. He has an international reputation for research into violence against children and for creating and sustaining academic partnerships in East Asia and globally.


He is Co-Director of the Institute for Community Health Research in Hue, Vietnam, has worked as a consultant for UNICEF East Asia, the World Health Organization, and the Network of European Foundations.


Michael has contributed to development of tools to measure violence against children (including the ICAST instruments), and has been co-leader of the first community-based epidemiological surveys of child abuse and neglect in China, Vietnam and Malaysia.He led Australia’s only nationwide population survey of child sexual abuse using Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing. His experience with these studies in Australia and overseas are allied with his experience in measuring burden of disease. He has >170 publications and has received competitive funding of $4m in the last 5 years. He is exceptionally experienced in PhD supervision, with 49 career PhD supervisions.
