State governments across Australia have shown high levels of interest in the Australian Child Maltreatment Study findings, which will be publicly launched in early April 2023.

Queensland’s Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs, the New South Wales Department of Communities and Justice, and South Australia’s Early Intervention Research Directorate have received an advance in-confidence briefing outlining ACMS results to assist with ongoing policy and practice efforts to reduce child maltreatment. The Australian State and Territory Chief Practitioners also received an update on ACMS progress.

“Child maltreatment needs to be addressed at multiple levels of government,” said Professor Mathews. “It’s fantastic to see both state and national governments asking for this data to inform their decision-making”. Further briefings are being planned for other states.
